About PCC

HELPING PEOPLE GROW SINCE 1913

In the early 1900's, a group of Nassau County women in the Five Towns area met each Monday morning to dispense food, clothing and money for essentials to needy families in the community. Doctors, clergy and school officials aided in directing this charitable group of women to families in need and in advising needy families as to where they might turn to for help. These were the seeds of social consciousness that spawned Peninsula Counseling Center (PCC). Founded in 1913, PCC has evolved into the largest mental health agency in Nassau County.

Today, PCC keeps alive the same friendly and caring spirit. Providing services at six different locations throughout the county, PCC reaches out to fulfill the needs of a diverse Long Island community with a wide spectrum of specialized services for children, teens, families, adults and the elderly. The agency's services are available to all regardless of age, race, color, creed, sex, ethnicity, national origin or disabling conditions. From preschoolers to the elderly, PCC serves nearly 5,000 individuals, including over 3,000 families, annually.

Peninsula Counseling Center is licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health and the New York State Division of Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse. A staff of 126, which includes 77 psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychiatric nurses, vocational rehabilitation counselors and social workers, in addition to administrative staff, provides 1,450 hours per week of professional time for mental health and alcoholism treatment services to the community. The quality of PCC's professional services and innovative programs is widely recognized, both locally and nationally.

Peninsula Counseling Center's mission is to enhance the growth and development of individuals of all ages, to strengthen family life and to contribute to the social-psychological well-being of the community. These objectives are accomplished through providing therapeutic, rehabilitative, educational and preventative outreach and mutual support services.
