Peninsula Counseling Center’s Calendar Items for Winter 2006

 

 

PCC Special Events

 

Monday, November 13th at 7 PM in Cedarhurst, NY – PCC Auxiliary Ladies Night Out. Enjoy a fun evening of bingo, dinner and socialization in a private room at Mother Kelly’s. Valuable prizes galore! New Group Now Forming

 

Support Group for Parents of Gay/Lesbian Adolescents & Adult Children is now forming at Peninsula Counseling Center. Issues include dealing with acceptance conflicts, religious/moral attitudes, anger, guilt, stigma, health (HIV/AIDS) concerns and attitudes of family and friends. Meets Thursday evenings. PCC Ongoing Groups

Caregiver’s Group at Peninsula Counseling Center is for anyone who is overwhelmed by caring for an ill loved one. Led by Joanne Walters, L.C.S.W, it addresses issues including stress, anxiety depression and learning to take better care of yourself. This group meets every other Tuesday at 3PM at 124 Franklin Place, Woodmere. For additional information, call Linda Greenbaum at 569-6600, ext. 235.

 

Project Cares is a Social-Day Program for Men and Women 60 and Over who are considered frail due to physical or mental difficulties. Sponsored by Peninsula Counseling Center, the group meets Monday through Thursday at St. Joseph’s Church School Building, Broadway, Hewlett.  Transportation provided within a limited area. Support & Educational Group for Parents of Children with ADHD.  Learn techniques to help your children and family understand and cope with ADHD, how to improve communications with the school and ways to advocate for your child. Also covers issues related to medication, relationships, siblings and sports. Share experiences. Thursdays at 12:30-1:30 PM. Sponsored by Peninsula Counseling Center. 124 Franklin Place, Woodmere. Alzheimer’s and Dementia Sufferers aged 60 and over are welcome at the Club, a social supportive program sponsored by Peninsula Counseling Center. The club meets Mondays and Wednesdays for women, Tuesdays and Thursdays for men, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 1355 Noel Ave., Hewlett.  Call 374-9253 for more information.

 

Eating Disorders Program of Peninsula Counseling Center is forming groups for bulimia and compulsive over-eating. Individual, group and family therapy are also available. Julie Livingston, LCSW conducts the program at 381 Sunrise Highway, Lynbrook. Call 599-1181 for information.

 

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Program to help individuals and families recover from the destructive consequences of substance abuse is provided by the Chemical Dependence Treatment Services of Peninsula Counseling Center. Group and individual therapy sessions for adult and adolescents are available. Strict confidentiality observed. Two Bereavement Groups are Now Forming at Peninsula Counseling Center, 124 Franklin Place, Woodmere. Whether you recently lost a spouse or continue to have difficulty coping with issues related to your loss after approximately one year, we have a group that can help. South Shore Services for the Handicapped provides individual, family and group counseling, as well as support and advocacy for those with disabilities and their families. Parenting Your Teenager is the group is forming at the Parent Place.  Learn how to differentiate between “normal” and abnormal behavior, effective strategies to use with adolescents ages 13 through 18, methods to improve communications, techniques to set boundaries and ways to balance your teen’s need for privacy against your anxiety and concerns. Teen Girls’ Socialization Groups that help build self-confidence, enhance social skills and improve academic performance are offered by Peninsula Counseling Center, 124 Franklin Place, Woodmere. Girls, ages 14-15: Kathy Schmitt, LMSW. Girls, ages 16-18: Kelly Farrell, LMSW.  Information at 569-6600.

 

High School Boys Ages 14-18 are Invited to a New Socialization Group that is now forming. “Doing Better with Friends, Family and at School” is sponsored by Peninsula Counseling Center. Led by Steven Levey, the group will meet each Wednesday from 5:45 to 7:00 PM at 381 Sunrise Highway, Lynbrook. For information, call: 599-1181.

 

Adults with Psychiatric Disabilities are Invited for Fun, Food & Live Entertainment at Peninsula Counseling Center’s LimeLight Cafe. Enjoy socialization, live shows, music, dancing and refreshments, Fridays 4:30 – 9PM. Helene Goldberg, MSCRC directs the program at 108 Franklin Place, Woodmere. Support Group for Parents of Disabled Children. – Now there is help and assistance for those raising a developmentally disabled child thanks to South Shore Services for the Handicapped. Sponsored by Peninsula Counseling Center, the group meets every Monday from 7:30-8:30 Pm at 124 Franklin Place, Woodmere.
